What It Does
This tool takes an Instagram handle — with or without the @, or as a full profile URL you pasted — and builds a QR code pointing at that profile. Because a handle is short, the resulting code is one of the simplest you can make: few modules, large blocks, and reliable scanning from a shop window or across a market stall.
When to Use It
- You have a shop window or market stall and want passers-by to find your profile without typing a handle they will misspell.
- You are putting a code on packaging or a thank-you card so customers can tag you in a post.
- You are printing flyers for an event and want the Instagram account on there as a scan rather than a line of small text.
- You collaborate with other accounts and want a code for your profile that works in someone else's printed material.
Worked Examples
@northwinddesign
A handle typed the way it appears on the profile. The @ is display convention, not part of the address, so it is stripped — instagram.com/@name is a 404.
A pasted profile URL
The handle is pulled out of the URL, dropping the www and trailing slash. The shortest form makes the simplest code, which matters on a shop window.
Handle with an invalid character
Instagram handles allow letters, numbers, dots and underscores only. A space means the profile does not exist, and the code would lead to an error page.
Common Mistakes
- Including the @ in the URL. The @ is display convention, not part of the address — instagram.com/@yourbrand is not a valid profile link. This tool strips it, but tools that do not will produce a code leading to a 404.
- Pointing the code at a specific post. Posts get deleted and archived, and a printed code outlives them. Point at the profile unless the post is genuinely permanent.
- Adding tracking parameters copied from the app's share sheet. Instagram's share links carry long igsh= parameters that add nothing for a printed code and make it visibly denser.
- Printing a code that only works in-app. Instagram has its own nametag QR inside the app, which many camera apps ignore. A plain profile-link code, like this one, opens from any camera on any phone.
