Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the WebToolWorld JSON Formatter browser extension and the WebToolWorld website handle your information. Our guiding principle is simple: the tools do their work locally in your browser, and we collect as little as possible.

The short version

  • The JSON Formatter extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your data.
  • All JSON is processed on your device. Page content is never sent to us or anyone else.
  • The only thing stored is your own settings (theme and view preferences), saved in your browser.
  • We do not use analytics or tracking inside the extension.

The browser extension

What it does

The extension detects when a page is JSON and reformats it for readability (syntax highlighting, a collapsible tree, and error detection). This happens entirely within your browser tab.

Data we collect

None. The extension does not collect or transmit any personal information, browsing history, or page content. The JSON on a page is read only to render a formatted view and is discarded when you leave the page — it is never uploaded, stored, or logged.

Data stored on your device

Your preferences — theme (light/dark/system), default view (formatted/tree/raw), and whether URLs are made clickable — are saved using the browser's built-in storage API. If you are signed in to your browser, these settings may sync across your own devices via your browser account. They contain no personal data and are never sent to us.

Permissions we request, and why

  • Storage — to save the preferences described above.
  • Host access (all sites) — required so the extension can check each page's content type and format it only when it is JSON. It runs on every page to make that check, but on non-JSON pages it does nothing and exits immediately. This access is used solely for formatting; no data leaves your device.

Remote code

The extension runs only the code bundled in its package. It does not download or execute any remote or third-party code.

The website

The WebToolWorld website provides browser-based tools that also run in your browser; the data you enter into a tool is not sent to our servers unless a tool explicitly states otherwise. The website may use cookies and third-party services (such as Google AdSense) to display ads and understand aggregate usage. Those third parties may set their own cookies in accordance with their privacy policies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

Children's privacy

Our tools are general-purpose utilities and are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
