What It Does

This tool builds a link to Google's writereview endpoint for your Place ID, so scanning it opens the star-rating dialog straight away. That distinction matters more than it sounds: a code pointing at your ordinary Maps listing drops the customer on a page where they have to scroll, find 'Write a review' and tap it — and a large share of them simply do not.

When to Use It

  • You want a code on the counter, the receipt or the table so happy customers can leave a review before they have left.
  • You run a service business and want a review code on the invoice or the completion card left behind after a job.
  • You are a hotel or rental host and want a review prompt in the room or the checkout email.
  • Your business is new and every early review matters, so removing friction from the ask is worth doing properly.

Worked Examples

ChIJN1t_tDeuEmsRUsoyG83frY4

A Place ID from Google's Place ID Finder. This is the form that opens the star rating directly, which is the entire reason to use a code rather than an ask.

A pasted write-review link

The Place ID is pulled back out rather than the link being nested. You get the same code either way, so whichever you have to hand works.

A Google Maps listing link

Encodes fine, but the analysis warns you: this opens the listing, where the review button sits below photos and hours. A large share of customers never scroll to it.

Common Mistakes

  • Linking to your Maps listing rather than the review box. The listing link is easy to copy and costs you reviews — the customer lands on a page of photos and opening hours and has to hunt for the review button. This tool warns when the link you paste is a listing link.
  • Guessing the Place ID. Place IDs are long opaque strings starting with ChI, and a wrong one either fails or points at a different business entirely. Get yours from Google's Place ID Finder rather than from a URL you half-recognise.
  • Asking every customer indiscriminately. Putting the code where unhappy customers meet it first is how you collect one-star reviews efficiently. Most businesses do better asking at the point where the customer has just had a good experience.
  • Offering an incentive for reviews. Google's policies prohibit it, and reviews obtained that way get removed — sometimes along with others, and occasionally with a warning on the listing.
